Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site, we collect the data shown in the comment form, together with the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (hash) may be sent to the Gravatar service to check if you use it. The Gravatar privacy policy is available at https://automattic.com/privacy/. After comment approval, your profile picture becomes visible to the public next to your comment.

Media

If you upload images to the website, avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS). Visitors can download and extract location data from uploaded images.

Cookies

If you leave a comment, you may opt in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for convenience so you don’t re-enter details later. Cookies last one year.

If you visit our login page, a temporary cookie checks if your browser accepts cookies. It contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, we set cookies to save your login information and screen display choices. Login cookies last two days, screen-option cookies one year. Selecting “Remember Me” keeps your login for two weeks. Logging out removes the login cookies.

If you edit or publish an article, a cookie will be stored in your browser containing the post ID of the edited article. It expires after one day.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles may include embedded content (videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other sites behaves exactly as if the visitor had visited that external site. Those sites may collect data, use cookies, embed third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that content, including tracking if you have an account and are logged in there.

Who we share your data with

If you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset email for security reasons.

How long we retain your data

Comments and metadata are retained indefinitely to recognize and approve future comments automatically. For users who register (if available), we store the personal information in their profile. Users can see, edit, or delete their information at any time (except username). Site administrators can also view and edit that data.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account or have left comments, you can request an exported file of your personal data we hold, including any data you provided. You may also request erasure of personal data, except data we must retain for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Where your data is sent

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service such as Akismet or similar anti-spam tools.
